Calligraphy workshop on the 4th of December at 13:00

Tax included.

Chinese calligraphy is one of the most respected art forms in China, and has a long tradition.

Calligraphy literally translates as 'beautiful writing.' In China, from a very early period, calligraphy was considered not just a form of decorative art; rather, it was viewed as the supreme visual art form, was more valued than painting and sculpture, and ranked alongside poetry as a means of self-expression and cultivation.

We invite you to discover Chinese calligraphy on the 4th December at 13:00 at Amsterdam tea Culture Club with Edsko de Vries

About master:

Edsko have being studying Chinese calligraphy for 6 years now. He lived in China, in Nanchang, Jiangxi province, where he began his studies. He studied calligraphy quite intensively there, with up to 4 private classes per week at times. He was also lucky enough to become kind of a protege of the master calligrapher Wang Xiaolong

We will start the workshop with an introduction to Chinese calligraphy, the most important styles, and  its sense of aesthetics. You will then learn how to work with a Chinese brush (or 毛笔 máobǐ) and the most important basic strokes. We will finish by practicing a meaningful character and attempt to write it on a nice piece of paper to take home. You do not need any experience to participate in this workshop, it's an opportunity to just discover this beautiful art form in the stunning and inspirational surroundings of Moychay.

• After the master class, you can enjoy an authentic  Chinese tea ceremony in one of our cozy tea rooms.
